I use a tent like the CLAM Quick-Set Pavilion 12.5 x 12.5, I like that it is easy to assemble and good protection from insects. Also we can sit freely in it for six of us. I found it based on a recommendation from Must-Have RV Accessories - RV Camp Gear

I'm a canvas kinda camper, myself. That wall tent with a wood stove (think cozy evenings!) is pure Alaskan bliss. Sure, it's heavy, but car camping lets you embrace the lodge vibes. Tipi tents are awesome too, but hauling poles for an 18-footer? No thanks. My vote goes for canvas comfort!

 

Nothing matches the comfort of canvas and a wood stove, however, a BIG tarp to keep that canvas dry is a GOOD thing. A real consideration here in the Pacific Northwest during the wet-season.

 

My wall tent is almost 45 years old. I have camped in it in blizzards, big thunderstorms and 5 days of solid rain. I have lived in it for a month. Not once has it ever leaked or let me down. I have never used a tarp over it.
