I bought my tent today.

I have been trolling around for a canvas tent for about a month. I bought one today.

It is a monster! A trek 10 x 14 canvas cabin tent. I looked at the smaller tents, but they wouldn't fit four cots and give us enough room to actually get beside the cot to assume the lying position. The last thing I needed was one of my kids to try to climb into a cot from the bottom and tip the whole thing over!

I went with canvas because all of the nylon and taffetta tents had those huge vents in the ceiling. I didn't see them as being able to:

1. Hold heat at least reasonably well. I live and do most of my camping in PA and we actually and honestly have gotten snow showers as early as the end of September and as late as the end of May.

2. Maybe hold in some air conditioning if I ever got the money to get to my dream destination of Fort Wilderness Camp Ground in Disney World Florida.

I didn't like the price of $325 but I really feel that it will be worth the money in the long run over having to buy several $120 nylon tents.

Help me with my compulsive camping equipment purchases!!!!!!! hehehehe

I'm excited for you, your post has made me feel all happy....you know how sometimes you sit and think " hey why am I feeling all happy " and then you remember " oh ya someone got something new " and it makes me feel like I got something new too ( I know I needs a life ).
I remember your post on the disboard and that's how I found this site so I feel like we are friends.
Every dog has it's day and you will be at WDW's FW before you know it, we went last April and it was FUN ! I was pooped but it was fun !:D
Oh...... I am honored to be friends with a fellow recovering Disneyholic. hehehehe

I understand about feeling your happiness through someone else! It is the sign of a compassionate person!

Now I just can't wait for the weather to get nice enough, and I feel a backyard camp out coming on!!!!!
Hey thanks, we camped out so many times in our tt last summer just for fun that the neighbor got to where he would knock on our camper door before coming to our front door..hehe :whistling:

Have fun !
Kiteri, your out of control :)

Sounds like a great tent. Is it a one room large tent, or a 2 or 3 room tent?
It sounds to me that you did your homework for some time and you made the right decision. Way to go. It might sound expensive but if you way out all the pros and cons, I probably would have made the same choice. I don't care (within reason) how much something costs as long as I know I'm getting quality. Do it right the first time. It's less expensive....in the long run that way.
I didn't check into the number of rooms, because I only need one big room!

I don't want a divider... just a pain in my book.

I can't wait till it gets here!!!!
Sounds great Kiteri. You ordered online I see? When you getting it? Have to upload a pic of that first camping trip. Your husband know about it yet?? :)
I did order it online, only because there is no place local that sells them! I would have to drive two hours to Pittsburgh for the closest vendor.

It should ship out tomorrow, but it is coming UPS ground, so I don't expect it this week.

I was out at the campground that is close to my house tonight just checking out the sites I have reserved for this season to make sure a big ole tent like this will fit... and luckily the sites I have are perfect for a big tent!!!

Oh... my sweetie is on board for the tent. $325 is less than three nights in a hotel and we will get LOTS of nights in this tent!!!!!

We will try to do a Hershey trip next summer and stay at the campground associated with the park. All the hotels around there are $$$$$$ so that will help!

The pictures are definately coming... whether you want them or not.... :rotflmao1:

Sounds great Kiteri, we do want them! Should go real nice with your new screen tent you won earlier here, which by the way should arrive any day if it hasnt already.
Congratulations Kiteri ! So awesome that you have two tents coming to you!! I didn't know that you won one from Camper Community.:thumbup1: I think the camping stock is going up again. Kiteri is at the keyboard again.:rotflmao1: We're all happy for you, and I can't wait to see the pictures. Terri said her neighbor knocks at her camper first, and house second.

Hey it could be worse we could be sitting out in a boat in the driveway in 40 degree weather the way our neighbor down the street has for the last two days..lol :D
Thats great Kiteri, I am jealous! Looks real nice. I have no doubt you will get your moneys worth out of it, thats not even a down payment on a travel trailer or fifth wheel :bang:
Oh Terri... that is hilarious!!!! :rotflmao1: You should offer to spray him with the garden house for a little "sea mist" effect if he will come around and growl like a bear when you guys are in your trailer!!!! ;)

I really want that travel trailer Cassie, but I just can't part with that kind of money! It isn't just the initial down payment that hurts. It is the monthly payments, AND the insurance payments, AND the gas to tow it, AND the cost to store it in the winter, AND the cost of maintanence on it.... I just couldn't afford it.

For what I use camping for... I think a tent will work nicely. Go all day to the amusement park, or the beach, or the local attractions, and come back at night with a place to roast up some grub and a place to fall asleep from exhaustion!
