Hello all. I just want to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I have been camping all my life, but took a break while in college. My family first started with a tent, mostly "car camping" type site at state parks. My father then took a job selling RV's at a large dealership. They allowed the salesmen to borrow any used RV to help determine if they had problems, so I am also very experience with class A motorhomes.

My wife hasn't ever camped, but we always talked about it, but then started having children. My daughter is now 5 and my son is almost 2. I have convinced my wife that we should go camping this summer, with the current gas prices, it will reduce the overall cost of our summer vacation. She agreed and I have now reserved a spot at Warren Dunes State Park in Southwestern Michigan. My wife grew up in that part of Michigan, so she is excited to get back by the lake and the dunes.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who has camped with small children for any tips and/or suggestions. Like I said, I have tons of tips for both tent and RV camping, so I look forward to being part of the site. I have camped everywhere from the Florida Keys to the upper part of Indiana (Indiana Dunes). This summers trip to MI will be my farthest north trip so far, so I look forward to sharing the camping experience with my family.

Welcome PD, it sounds great to get them into camping. If they enjoy the outdoors, I am sure they will love it like we all do here. Our experience with kids, ours and others has been wonderful. The bike riding, smore cooking, swimming, fishing, etc.. I have many wonderful memories from my childhood and camping. Best thing to do is just try it out and see how it goes. If nothing else, you could even try a short trip out with the kids, maybe head to the campground on saturday and come home sunday, just to see how it goes.

So are you tent camping, or rv camping this year?

We also look forward to you sharing what you know with other campers here, thats what makes this growing community work.

Thanks for the welcome. Don't worry, l2l, I am from Indiana, not Michigan, but it appears MI has many campers here.

I will be tent camping for now, as I own all the necessary gear for that. I have looked into pop-ups before, but want to see how everyone does before I make any purchases.

Welcome PD!

We like everyone here :), especially Michigan campers.

Let us know how the tent camping trips go, that is a great way to get them started out. If they enjoy being outdoors, they will have a great time.
