My husband and I just recently purchased a 2004 Laredo. We are looking forward to many trips. We would appreciate any advise. My husband used to camp with his family as a teenager. Does anyone have a favorite CG in the mountains for a weekend trip from SC?

Does anyone have a favorite CG in the mountains for a weekend trip from SC?

Davidson River CG in Pisgah National Forest (at Brevard, NC - 30 minutes from Hendersonville). We go here 2 - 4 times a year (we live next to Charleston). Mind you, if you are looking for amenities, then this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a peaceful place, where the temps aren't bad, the sites are good size, a river you can swim, tube, or catch trout in, then this is the place for you.

They have no hookups (okay, there are about 3 sites that do have water and electric - never used them), but you can fill your fresh water when you pull in, and there are plenty of spigots on each loop. Each loop has nice bathrooms. The showers are one temp only - I say they're too hot, my wife says they are perfect.

If you need anything there's a 24 hour Bilo and a Wal-mart about 1 mile back in Brevard. You're also about 20 minutes from Blue Ridge Parkway, and there are plenty of hiking trails, primitive camping sites, waterfalls, horse trails, etc. in the forest.

I have never camped in South Carolina, but I have in North Carolina. I loved the lady who has all of her camps on her map. I wish I could be that organized. I guess so! Is that what it is? But I dont wear aprons or skirts or anything like that when I cook. I will stay away from the decorating tips, as hard as it will be.
