I have recently acquired an old (about my age, 35 or so) Coleman canvas wall tent. It has only been used a handful of times, it's almost pristine, I cannot WAIT to use it.
My (stupid) question. Should I waterproof it? :shrug::scratchhead:I contacted Coleman, they said no. My step-dad and his dad (who I got it from) say yes. I see you guys talking about waterproofing. About.com's camping guru said don't do it. HELP!!!

Coleman told you no, so I would go with that.

Set it up in your backyard, get a hose and make your own rain. If it leaks, then waterproof it.

i never treated mine and i used the quite a bit, when i was a scout and earlier days with the family. i still have my two and they're in good shape. the kids took them to lake george this summer.
as i remember you don't touch the inside wall or it will start to leak. something about creating a membrane on its own to keep the water out.
i think i woul do the hose thing too. just to make sure, it might have dried out.
