Hello to all,
I just joined. Am not a seasoned camper yet, but am looking
for a good, used camper vehicle to eventually start my camping
experiences. I live in southern Alaska which is a lot like the
Pacific Northwest, except it is in the Tongass National Rainforest,
which means it rains a LOT.
I appreciate membership in this fine community & hope to
become acquainted with people soon. :10220:
best regards,
valerie

Hi Valerie,

Welcome to the forum. My wife's middle brother and wife are moving from that area since he JUST retired late last month and they are heading south for warmer and dryer climates in a couple of weeks. I say this because I am familiar with South Alaska, but mostly "Southeast Alaska" because of numerous visits to their home town and beyond.

You might be asking quite a bit if you are looking for information about rigs you can use in Alaska. I wish you success in your search.

Welcome to the forum Valerie. What type of camping do you plan to do, or type of camper are you looking to get?
Hello & thank you for the welcome.
Not sure yet, this is pre-camper vehicle status
still. Lots of places to camp up here, but was thinking
more long the lines of exploring down south eventually.

I am undecided between a Toyota mini motor home &
a VW camper van, all tricked out. As I'd be using it also
as a day to day vehicle it's hard to decide. And haven't
been able to find anyone or anyplace online for discovering
their pros & cons...sigh.

I've heard Tennessee is quite nice. :)

ps (not sure if I've "replied" with proper forum protocol yet)

ah...yes, SE Alaska, the same.
Not sure if that camping is my
first choice though, dues to prevalence
of many bears & they don't even hibernate
all winter anymore!
So no - not seeking advice on an Alaska-mobile.
Where in SE do (did?) your relatives live?
Thanks for the welcome. :)

They lived in Juneau and we've been up there, by just about all means on getting there. DW and I have also been to Ketchikan (almost our favorite small SE town), St. Petersburg, Sitka, and Wrangell via AK Ferry (most fun) and Cruise ship (nice but the ship is so big everything is from far away. Also, Glacier Bay (how sad so much of it is melted away) and several times to Haines, Skagway and as far northwest as Tok and the Copper River. So much more to see, but now that they are moving down to the lower 48 it's gonna be harder to get the desire (and money) to get up there.
