Default Buying a new tent

We are currently evaluating different family tents and are thinking about purchasing one. We are not tent campers usually, but want to have one for places we cant go with a camper or rv, and we may use it in the backyard for sleepovers and such.

Would anyone care to provide some feedback to help us make a decision? I havent looked much at tents in a long time.

Are you looking for a 2 person, or family tent? Do you like the dome tents, or cabin style tents better?

I didn't realize there were so many things to think about when buying a new tent. I guess you're right about the size of the tent. Then, you would like a straight topped one is what we had. It was huge, but that's because I was a child. Then everything is big. When you grow up, it's the opposite. Your world becomes minuscule.

The Lightning by Sierra Designs is a good tent, a 3 season type of tent. Its very light and waterproof. Its only good for 2 adults, or one adult and 2 kids thought.

If you need a bigger tent the Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL 2 would be a good choice. Its a 3 pole design with 2 seperate areas and a lot of space. It has 2 doors. Its around $350, so it depends on how big of a tent you need, and what your budget for it is. They have so many to choose from.

I LOVE dome tents because they are so easy to put up, but they usually don't have much head clearance to stand up in to get dressed and stuff.

If you are going to have the extra hands to help put the tent up, which it sounds like you will if this is supplemental sleeping for people who wont fit in your camper, you could do a cabin tent. They are nice because you can stand up inside them.

You could compromise with a tent like this:

Sports Authority - Eureka Copper Canyon 1312 Cabin Tent

That's one gorgeous tent in the link you gave, Kiteri. That's a very big dome shaped tent with extra room inside. It gives you the dimensions and sleeping capacity. Polyurethene taffeta fabric that resists the moisture. It also looks like a very lightweight construction, so you can carry it easily. The price seems reasonable for that size of a tent.

We have the Northwest Territory 14 x 14 vacation cottage 3. It has 3 rooms and plenty of space inside. My husband is 6'4" and can stand up in it. I'm 4"11" and can put it up by myself.

Height differences are amazing at 6'4" and 4'11". My best man and his wife had a huge height difference. She was 6'2" and he was 4'12". So in our wedding photos you can see it clearly. But they did have a very cute son who was just the right size. They are very sweet couple, and she was in the military.
