I am not usually a big fan of cold weather, but your pictures are making me want to plan a weekend camping this weekend.

Wow McGyver, I've done some snow and winter camping in my day as an Eagle Scout but I never had anything close to that sweet set up of yours!

I myself will be camping in my car in the middle of a Wisconsin winter , so I've been doing a little research on how to keep warm. If you're camping at a place that looks like the pictures my tip will definitely be overkill, but if you're camping in a place like Wisconsin in January for whatever reason like I will the biggest thing to help keep warm is a good sleeping bag. I recently discovered the Northface Inferno 800 Pro sleeping bag-- I tested it out in my car during a few nights of ~30F weather and I was boiling, so just imagine what it'll be like in NEGATIVE 30F! It's an amazing sleeping bag, really high quality construction. I made a review video of it because it worked so well and I needed to share my thoughts with other people interested in car camping. I almost can't wait to see how it works out in January!

I love to camp in the winter! Ice Fishing is something that's fantastic!

Thanks, guys...

I came up with a list of reasons why Winter camping is better than pretty much any other time of the year:
No bugs
USUALLY no critters
No crowded campgrounds
You don't sweat and stink
Your friends don't sweat and stink
Huge fires!
No ice runs every day
Beer never gets warm
With snow on the ground and a full moon, or close to it, night hikes are great
With nothing else around, listening to snow falling through the branches of the trees is awesome!
Did I mention huge fires?

As far as keeping warm goes, it's all in knowing what layers your body needs to stay warm when you're out and about. But, for sleeping, I'm done with letting a sleeping bag do the work. I never did like trying to keep my face warm in sub-zero weather and those nature calls in the middle of the night are brutal when you have to jump out as fast as you can. I do bring backups - a sleeping bag and quilts, but I'm all about the Big Buddy heater. Even in -30 weather, when propane heaters are supposed to stop working right, I've figured a way to keep the propane flowing and have the tent at 70 or so.

Default Hand warmers

Just bought my wife, who is always cold, these hand warmers from Zippo. Put a couple in the sleeping bag to warm them up before going to sleep and they did a great job.
