A camp versus camping.

Posted 07-13-2008 at 12:28 PM by kiteri
Well, at my new job I work closely with a girl who has "a camp". She has a cabin close to a lake.

At my last job, one of my coworkers had a camper that hadn't been road worthy for at least a decade that was set up on a site close to state game grounds. This was his "camp".

I sort of view my canvas tent as my portable camp.

I like to think that if I want to be next to the state game lands I will just put my tent up there.

If I want to be close to the lake, I will put my tent up there.

If I want to go to the beach I will put my tent up there.

This is my idea of the difference between camping and having "a camp".

Not that there is ANYTHING wrong with having a camper or cabin in one place. I would LOVE to have that also... but if I am choosing one or the other, I think I like the ability to go different places and see different things each time we camp.

I have both. Camper, as well as an incredibly small hut on the beachfront at a lake in Saskatchewan. It's actually my favourite place on earth, so there's no way I'll ever just let that go. The trailer can fit in there, too, so that's nice...that's where we'll sleep, while the hut is to stay dry, too, and cook, if necessary.

I also enjoy the mobility factor. I considered several years ago buying "a camp". But I know I would get bored after a while in the same spot. I like camping where the notion takes me at the time.
