Default Keeping track of where you have camped.

I was considering picking up a map of North America and putting those little round map pins in the places we have camped, just to give the kids something to look forward to as camping season approaches.

Does anyone else do anything like this?

We do that to but I use Google Earth to mark where we've been. In some cases I can zoom right up to the campsite that we had. I can add notes to remind me what I liked and disliked about the campsite.

Wow I like the idea of using Google Earth to mark the places you been. I used to be a travel nurse (traveling around the US to different hospitals and helping out when they where short handed) and I had a map of the US. I started out by marking all the roads (freeways, highways and back roads) I used to get to my destination. When I was at a destination I took mini trips so I decided I should mark all the roads I had been on. Of course I decided I shouldn't just stop at that so I also added the roads that I took on any vacations I had been on since I was a kid. It really is amazing when you put it all together. I had a great time doing it. If we started doing more state to state traveling with my daughter I will do it again-it would be a good learning tool for her to learn and also some good quality bonding time.

Thanks for the idea. I've been thinking of keeping track, something for the kids to do.

Oops, I didn't realize it wasn't showing up under my join date. I'm from Michigan. Only camped around our state, and up in Canada a couple of times.

The only place did this was work. On my office walls was a map of the world, and I put where our employees went. I had everything marked with different color pins and names. It was a perfect way to keep track of current trips and future ones.

Google Earth is awesome!!!!!!! But I love the more tangible map on the wall for my kiddos to come and put the pin in!!!

As they get older though... I can see all of us on our laptop in the camper (if you are gonna dream, dream big) checking out the campground wifi and adding a new location to where we have camped!!!!!!!!!

Our problem is we keep camping at the same places and not enough different states to count.

That isn't necessarily a "problem". Sometimes it is really nice to know your way around. You spend less time getting lost, and trying to find the camp store or trying to pick a good site... you can just cruise up, set up camp and RELAX!!!!!

Thats that way it is for me too. We camp the same places, same states all the time. Its just too hard to get away further right now. Gas prices for one, and time off another. I dont like to go more than 3-4 hours away from home, unless we have an extra day or more off work.

Keeping track of where you have camped is challenging. But some do camp in the same places. I think a little of both is good. We need consistency, but also something completely different. If we are doing the same campsites then at least you're still camping. That's very good. You just throw in something unexpected, (different lake, different state, different activity - like hiking, pedal boat, or water skiing).

I pretty much have listed most of the campgrounds we camp or have camped at here in the forum. My thought about this is I don't want others to show up at a campground and not know how good or how bad the place is. If you read some of my reviews, you will find that I list what we liked and what we didn't like. So far there has only been one campground that I will never go back to and would almost beg someone NOT to stay there, unless they want a miserable trip.
The campground reviews is a great place to share your experiences.
