Default Hello from the Netherlands

For some weeks I did not log in on the CamperCommunity forum, today I received a message, urging me to join again. I appreciate this very much. But let me explain why I do not visit the forum as much as before:
- some weeks ago my wife and I had the intention to visit your country for 9-12 months during the summer of 2008, shipping our own motorhome;
- at first sight shipping did not seem to be excessively expensive: 40 Euro per kubic meter (one way fare);
- but it appeared thar there would be additional costs: 38% supplement because of rising oil prices. Also: our European insurance would be of no value, so we had to buy one in the US;
- as a result we decided to spend 2008 in Europe again. We consider coming to your country in one of the next years, not with our own motorhome but renting one (or renting a car).
We gathered much information about the US and US campgrounds, I think it would be very very nice. I also think you people over there are very very nice, the messages and discussions on the forum certainly give me this impression.
See you!

Your impression would be correct. Or at least everyone here. Personally I'm from Canada but everyone that I have talked to or have written to over the internet on this site and sites like this one are very friendly people and are more than happy to lend a hand of help and give some helpful advice. I have found over the years that the camping community in north America are some of the best people to be acquainted with. We look out for each other and make sure everyone around us is safe whenever we are out there camping.
Welcome to the site, I'm glad you joined.

The Netherlands, wow, great to have you on here Walter.

I cant speak for everyone in the USA for sure, but it would be great for you to visit and take that kind of adventure here. When we retire, we would like to do the same, visit other countries, whether camping or just visiting. I hope you and your wife get to come visit sometime soon, keep us posted on that. You would have a warm welcome from us for sure.

Default Welcome Walter!

That's a very nice trailer you have and thank you for sharing it. I know that going to another country can be scary, but I hope you know that we love foreigners. That's what we're made up of people from all over. You came to the right place to get a real family. This site is a close-knit family that enjoys spending time together. We wish you and your wife a very warm welcome from all of us!

Default back again

I started this thread three years ago. As you can read there, finally we decided not to travel to the US. But in 2011 we will, with our own RV! The shipping costs are somewhat more moderate now. And: we are in for something new. We travelled around the Mediterranean for five years. 'If you have seen one ancient temple you have seen them all' is centainly not true. But: we have seen them all by now! Especially the most beautiful, the Greek temples in Sicily and the old Roman cities in North Africa and the Middle East. Last year we travelled in Tunisia, Turkey and Syria. The year before we were in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. If you want information about traveling in these contries with your RV, you are welcome.
Now we come to see your scenery and heritage!
Preparing our trip you will find me again on this fantastic forum in the months to come.

Welcome back Walter.
I'm glad you are able to come here and visit our country. I'm sure you have done your homework, sorta speak, and found a lot of places to go and see while you are here.
I camped in Europe for awhile with the army in 1968. I got to see some great places while there. I was an air traffic controller at a small army airfield. I was able to take some helicopter rides to different places. Birches Garden, Amsterdam, Stuttgart and other places. I guess you really couldn't call it camping though.
Great bunch of people here. If you need help or information don't hesitate to ask. There will be someone able to help.
