Default Hello! I have a 1993 Nomad 35' with 2 slides in very bad shape i will be fixing

I live in Washington state and we get a ton of rain.

This 1993 nomad 5th wheel. 35' with 2 slides. The previous owners lived out of it and it is very trashed and poorly maintained. On the plus side its very large and has 2 slides for lots of space. Also the siding on the front and back are fiberglass and I believe the sides are as well because its makes a much different sound then when I rap my knuckles on my old metal siding trailer.

Needs fixing and cleaning in and out all over. I will be reading all over the site for information on various repairs. I have fixed a metal camper in the past with a collapsed roof from leaking that rotted the supports.

This is the first 5th wheel I have worked on that has fiberglass and rubberized roof.

Looks like a lot of work, but when you are done you should be proud.

It looks like it weighs a lot (three axles) and I hope you have the vehicle to tow and handle its weight when you are done refurbishing this.

Keep the solid hardwoods, granite counter tops, porcelain bowls and sinks, and heavy metal fixtures to a minimum and you should be fine. This way you can save weight for the hot tub or the wine cabinets... :-)

It does look like a ribbed fiberglass exterior. You'll be replacing all the rubber surrounds for the slideouts and not sure but the slideouts might need some adjustment.

Don't forget, the tires might need replacing. Trailer tires typically look good on the outside from their infrequent use, but they do age on the inside. Check the DOT code for the tires' manufacturing date before getting on the road. That's a lot of tires and you don't want them to be the cause of any mishaps after all the other work you'll have done!

Have fun with this one and I hope you post occasional pictures to show your progress.

Thanks for the reply, I know it is odd for only a 35' to have 3 axles... you generally only see that on 40' models... We tow using a 3/4 Dodge ram with a Cummings 5.9L turbo. The truck has upgraded 1 ton rear suspension.

When we towed the trailer home it handle a lot smoother than the other 2 axle trailers we have towed, we are thinking it handled so nicely because of the 3rd axle.

Default New RV

There are good ideas here too but you might want to join RVNET and RV Forum Community I've got great ideas from them all. You have a project for sure but some people thrive on them, good luck and welcome, let us know how you come out, Gerry
