Default Greetings from Yankee Hill, CA

Hello!
The wife and I got our first 5th-wheel RV last October, and we're really loving it. We've learned that an older "bargain" RV may not be such a bargain after all - we've put more money into this rig than we ever intended.

There's a lot of good info in this forum. Thank you!

I'm amazed at how well this rig tows behind a yr 2000 Ford F250. Even my wife can drive it without fear. Just don't ask her to back it up!

Default used 5ver

While buying a used RV is a roll of the dice, I think that as a whole it makes more sense than buying new. As the various RV forums show most that buy new don't get perfect rigs and usually have to have bugs worked out the first season. Granted most are fixed on warranty but not all. Depreciation the first year especially is high. We bought our first toy hauler when it was a year and a half old with low use then last year traded for a bigger one then four years old. The second had a few more bugs but it took about $700 and now we're very pleased. Both were small bumper pulls, 17 and 22ft. I hope that none of your problems are structural or serious. Good luck and let us know how you come out. Happy camping, Gerry

Thanks Gerry. The problems were both structural and serious. A water leak on the front curved panel gave way to rot, and delamination of the left front side: both the Filon outer skin, and the plywood beneath it. Result? Our first camping trip, the left front side blew off on the freeway, pulling off the Filon skin, the plywood, the insulation and all the wiring. About an 8-foot chunk of the side, scattering it on the freeway behind us. All this, just driving down the freeway. I didn't even have the pleasure of hitting a tree or something in a campground. Sheesh.

After a $3,000 repair bill, all is well. Doesn't look as good as it did, but at least our rig is safe and water-tight.

Default your rebuilt RV

That's tough news Jim but I hope that you can now have a dependable RV and pleasurable time using it with no problems for a long time. Gerry
