Default Hope to become happy campers

Hi, my husband and I have just purchased a Rockwood ultra lite TT. We hope to take the next two years traveling off and on. We have not camped in about 25 years, and only with popup camper then. We now have 34 footer! We are getting ready to make the first shakedown trip not too far from home. Any tips for a successful return to camping appreciated.

to the forum and I'm glad that you have returned to camping.

Not sure how much you remember from the PUP days... but it should be like riding a bike... once you learn how you always remember.

Three recommendations.

1. It is great that your shake down will be near by. Is is possible to do day and/or night at Camp Driveway?

2. Don't leave home without a pencil and note pad... or if you are into technology, them make notes of all the things you need to get on your cell phone.

3. You are going to be tempted to acquire and take a lot of things... probably wasn't an issue when you had a PUP but now you have lots of space. Be careful as you may end up with stuff you never use and then, as I'm going through now, have to get rid of unnecessary items.

Welcome aboard

Like Ruide said, avoid the "I now can take everything" mentality. You'll end up packing and unpacking so much that it will lose it's charm. Do get some nice outdoor recliners, though.

I'm not going to repeat what these two fine gentlemen has said but I will agree with the both of them. Take what you need. But most important, bug spray, a good book, and have a great time. Time to reconnect with one another whether you need to or not. Doesn't matter. Have fun. Camping in the rain or in the sun, sure beats working
