Fun Facts about S’mores

I love s’mores… more than I probably should. To this day, every time I eat one I’m magically taken back in time to my Girl Scout day camp days. This yummy snack is truly a camping tradition.
S’mores have evolved at bit, since way back when. I was actually quite surprised to learn they have been in existence since 1927, the year the recipe first appeared in the Girl Scout Handbook.
These days many new and sometimes crazy ingredients have been added to the basic graham cracker, marshmallow and chocolate trio. I have even read that there are Peeps lovers who stock up on this Easter treat and freeze them to use, for summertime s’mores.
I’ve done a bit of online searching and have found recipes such as Chocolate Banana S’mores, Peanut Butter and Jelly S’mores, Coconut S’mores, Rocky Road S’mores and s’mores made with Peanut Butter Cups, instead of chocolate bars.
When you aren’t camping you can still enjoy this yummy treat. You can toast your marshmallows in a fireplace, over a grill or burner of a gas stove. You can even melt them in the microwave.
August 10th, 2006, marked the first National S’mores Day, sponsored by none other than the Hershey Company.

My favorite way to make a s'more - wait until the kids bring me one (they don't like a burnt marshmallow - and I think those are the best).
