A Cool Picnic Cooler

Posted 07-16-2008 at 12:14 PM by merrystrong
I’m currently in search of a new picnic cooler. It won’t be a replacement cooler. I’m looking for an extra one. (I’ve come to the conclusion that you can never have too many coolers, especially on a camping trip.)

I think I want a soft sided cooler. By the looks of things they are becoming increasingly popular. They are available in a wide range of sizes and colors and are really quite neat!

A cooler like this would also be great for the beach, tailgate parties, family reunions and other outings… like a trip to the zoo.

The majority of coolers I’ve looked at are very well insulated and look like they would be easy to transport. All of them come with a guarantee to keep your food cold, for hours. Because of the waterproof lining… they look like they would wipe clean very easily and remain leak free.

Many of these soft sided coolers have a molded foam bottom, which provides extra structure and support.

One of the things I like most about them is the fact that they and exterior pockets to hold things like silverware and napkins. They also have interior mesh pockets that hold small food items and condiments… which make them so much easier to locate. (No more digging in the bottom, of your cooler!)

I used to have one. Pros were what you mentioned, plus the ability to fold it down flat to store in a closet. However, it had one big Con - as in CONdensation. The outside stay constantly wet, and on a trip, wherever you had it in your vehicle became a lake. Mind you, this was not leaking - it was actually condensation.

Where I live is always very humid, so that may have contributed to my problem.

We got a pretty nice soft sided one, never used it. We are trying it out this weekend. I like what I see because it folds up to nothing, and when open it has wheels and handle. But if it gets everything wet, VERY humid here, it will be in the next yard sale

It's been my experience <living in the desert heat> that they're really convenient but not practical for anything beyond a day as the ice doesn't last very long. The one I have has a handle and wheels similar to suitcases which adds to it's convenience.
