He Ruide's camping folding trailer blog

My blog is dedicated to folding trailers (AKA PopUps or PUP’s). Hopefully non-PUP owners will find some of the posts of interest/value.

I’ll cover equipment, modifications, maintenance, camping stories, and of course SPUT’s (Stupid Pop Up Tricks). Please forgive my rants & raves and posts on my camping buddy – my granddaughter.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So I try and keep the post short but augment them with pictures from my SmugMug gallery.

Enjoy.

Comedian George Carlin, who died late last month, was famous for identifying seven words you could not say on TV. Now while I knew of Carlin, I must confess I had to look up what those words were. Of course I was not surprised to find that the words he listed were not exactly nice words.

I recognize I will never achieve the fame of Carlin, but I hope that the one and only person that reads my blog will remember me for listing the two words that should

Well I know this title might conjure pictures of a big drill rig that would bore into the ground and pump out oil from your back yard… and you could spend the rest of your life touring the US in your camper, but I’m sorry my drill pump will not do this.

However, if you turn on the TV early on Sunday morning you might find an infomercial for one as the solution to a medical problem that affects millions of Americans – back pain. “… and for two payments of $14.99

I was going to write about safety chains but another topic popped up last week that I thought I would spend some time discussing. As I’ve said earlier within the folding trailer community there are some topics that cause swords to be drawn. Well I ran right into the blade of one such topic last week. The topic was whether one could prevent rust by greasing a hitch ball.

Previously when this was discussed there were some that argued against...

Early last week a fellow camper said he was having problems attaching his tongue jack wheel because of low ground clearance. He wanted to know if he should do away with the wheel. My response was to shorten the tongue jack and I added that “I would keep the wheel on because if you bump the trailer while backing up the TV - you want the trailer to move a little. Plus there are times that you will want to move the trailer an inch or two just a little...

My eldest daughter has pointed out that whenever I get involved in a hobby or some other activity I spend a lot of time reading everything I can get my hands on. Motorcycles, hand guns, Jeep Wrangler, home audio equipment and now folding trailers. The problem is that I was having a hard time finding a magazine with folding trailer articles.

I started with Trailer Life and quickly got frustrated with the content. Yes there were camping...
