My blog is dedicated to folding trailers (AKA PopUps or PUP’s). Hopefully non-PUP owners will find some of the posts of interest/value.
I’ll cover equipment, modifications, maintenance, camping stories, and of course SPUT’s (Stupid Pop Up Tricks). Please forgive my rants & raves and posts on my camping buddy – my granddaughter.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So I try and keep the post short but augment them with pictures from my SmugMug gallery.
Enjoy.

Back in April DW declared that we should go camping. Now this was really strange since several years ago she had also declared that she would never camp again before Mother’s day. This declaration occurred after we camped in Kentucky in the middle of April and ran into this snow storm.
However, since we returned to Cincinnati we both had been burning the candles at both ends and she wanted some down time.
So I was really excited and quickly made CG reservations. Then I set about to prepare my camper. Now due to my fight with cancer, I had not camped in two years so there were a lot of things to check out. So I spent a weekend going through my check list:
1. Check anode and flush out debris from hot water tank
2. Drain antifreeze from lines
3. Remove battery from charger and reinstall on PUP
4. Check water pump
5. Sanitize water lines, hot and cold water tanks
6. Turn on propane tank and fire up the stove, water heater and most importantly the FURNACE
7. Run the fridge on propane and confirm it is cooling
8. Check tire and spare air pressure
9. Check the inside and out side lights
10. Put gas in the generator and start it up
The surprising thing was that everything worked as if I had been camping all along. No spider webs in the propane orifices, no critters in the PUP, no busted water lines. etc. The only thing I couldn't check was the AC as it was too cold. And the only thing I had to do was add a couple pounds of air to my spare tire.
I took a day vacation before the camping trip to pack, wash towels/linen and do some spring cleaning… but I never got around to doing that as very early that morning I got a call from DW who was on a business trip.
“DD has gone into labor.”
“What? She isn’t due for the next two weeks!”
“That’s what we all thought but the baby had different plans”
So all my camping plans when out the window as I threw some clothes into a suit case and headed for Atlanta. Eight hours later I arrived at the hospital to hold my third granddaughter - Annesia who weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and was 19 inches tall.

Disappointed I couldn’t go camping? yes
Happy to be a grand dad for the third time? OH YES!

Mailfire,
Thank you. Now how did you know I'm a proud grand dad? Was it the look of endearment or the smile on my face? No matter... I am very proud of her and all the other grand daughters. DW has a saying that puts everything in perspective... "Children are one of life’s greatest Joys. However, Grandchildren Are Life’s Greatest Joy." Ruide |

Congratulations on the new arrival! I wouldn't be disappointed to not be camping, either, with something like that to put a smile on my face!
