He Ruide's camping folding trailer blog

My blog is dedicated to folding trailers (AKA PopUps or PUP’s). Hopefully non-PUP owners will find some of the posts of interest/value.

I’ll cover equipment, modifications, maintenance, camping stories, and of course SPUT’s (Stupid Pop Up Tricks). Please forgive my rants & raves and posts on my camping buddy – my granddaughter.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So I try and keep the post short but augment them with pictures from my SmugMug gallery.

Enjoy.

Parents abandon children at camp ground

Posted 06-26-2009 at 02:33 PM by heruide
On Fathers’ Day weekend, DW and I headed to a camp ground that we had not visited before. There was one nice shaded site I had seen on the map that looked like the ideal site but it was already booked. So we had reserved one two sites away and found that there was a very nice couple with a child in a tent next to us.

Later that evening we saw a family of six set up camp at the shaded spot and they had a several tents and a huge portable gazebo. At that point I realized that they needed...

I’m on the cover of “O” magazine

Posted 06-08-2009 at 08:33 PM by heruide
While we were camping last weekend DW was reading a magazine while I was listening to music. That was interpreted when she proclaimed

“They have your set up on the cover on this magazine.”

Of course the magazines that DW reads DOES NOT include Camping magazines, Four Wheeling, Popular Mechanics, or Photography… So I had not idea what “Set up” meant.

“Dear what do you mean?” I asked

“Your camper and Hummer are on the cover page” was her response...

Back in April DW declared that we should go camping. Now this was really strange since several years ago she had also declared that she would never camp again before Mother’s day. This declaration occurred after we camped in Kentucky in the middle of April and ran into this snow storm.
However, since we returned to Cincinnati we both had been burning the candles at both ends and she wanted some down time.

So I was really excited and quickly made CG...

Three Flashing Lights

Posted 05-17-2009 at 10:35 PM by heruide
Went to sleep last night with my Atwood furnace working well but at 3:00 AM I heard the furnace blower come on and the ignition tried three times with out the furnace lighting. This occurred a couple times and I figured out I was out of propane.

Now DW doesn't really like the cold and I really wanted her to wake up to a toasty PUP, so I got dressed and when outside into the freezing cold to switch over to another propane tank.

However, I learned the hard...

A couple weekends ago I had the simple task of removing my 2 5/16 inch hitch ball and replacing it with a 2 inch ball so I could haul all the things DW and I collected during the last eight months from Houston to my home in Cincinnati in a Uhaul trailer.

This was going to be a very simple task with four steps:

1. Remove the nut and lock washer from the existing hitch ball shank
2. Remove the 2 5/16 hitch ball
3. Insert a 2 inch ball...
