ok, now i've seen everything. me and my husband went to a lake here. this would kind of be like you might be a redneck if . you drove a semi and on your days off used your tarp off your flat bed for a tent. there was a couple doing just that but at least i guess that would be cheaper than buying a tent .

Why do we camp?

Posted 07-09-2008 at 09:51 PM by kiteri
Okay... as the price of fuel skyrockets, and the cost of a hotel night stay can't afford to go up because tourism is already suffering, I have to ask the quintessential question for us campers....

WHY?!?!?!?!

Why do we pack up our things, haul them to a plot of dirt in the woods and "set up camp"?

I pose this question for everyone who has ever bit a flashlight in their teeth while their significant other holds the umbrella... all the while turning...

I'm going to Disney World Baby!!!!

That's right... I will be camping at Disney in January 2009!!!!!

I am so excited I could explode!

I will be taking the kids out of school for Martin Luther King Jr. week and get 9 days at Disney's Fort Wilderness resort with only 4 days of missed school!

We do over 2/3 of our camping at a federal CG w/o hookups. They have a dump station and you can fill your freshwater tank when you pull in. Each loop has several water taps.

Now we all bought our trailers to keep us comfortable when we camp, and to make setup and chores easier. When you have no hookups, you have to learn to make your limited resources last longer - else you may find a cold morning when you have no heat, you have to dump early, etc.

First and foremost,...

Keep it minimal, keep it fun

We've all heard the phrase (especially if you've ever been to Cub Scout Leader training) "Keep it simple, keep it fun". I've discovered over the years of camping to replace the word simple with minimal. Taking too much equipment with you to keep you comfortable results in many different problems:

1. More storage at home for all the equipment
2. More time packing before the trip
3. More time setting up your campsite
4. More time maintaining the equipment...
